How About Getting Lucky at 21?
21 or Blackjack, as it is more popularly known, is one of the most well liked casino card games in the whole world. The game is a mixture of chance with some elements of skill. Its popularity also comes from the publicity that surrounds keeping track of the cards that have been played since the dealer's last shuffle. Blackjack is not about strategy as it is a memory game. A seasoned Blackjack player keeps a mental list in his mind so that his odds at winning at each hand are greater.
The point of the game is having the hand with the highest total, as long as its total does not exceed 21. As soon as one player has a hand with a higher total than 21 is said to have too many or a bust. All cards 2 to 10 are worth their number and face cards, which have jack, queen, king, are worth 10. An ace has a value of 11 or 1, depending if this would cause the player to bust or still draw another card. Each player's goal is to beat the dealer. And this can only happen by having the higher hand than the dealer, which does not have a higher total than 21. As soon as a player busts he loses. Even if the dealer busts as well, he still loses. There are some cases wherein the player's and the dealer's cards have the same value, this is called a push. When a push occurs, neither the player nor the dealer wins the hand. One very important thing to remember is that each player has an independent game with the dealer. This means that it is possible for the dealer to lose to a player but still beat the other players involved in the same round.
A player is an automatic winner as soon as he has a two-card hand equaling 21, this is an ace and a ten-value card. This hand is called a blackjack. Unless, of course, the dealer has a blackjack as well, making it a push. There are also options for the players when playing his or hand. There is the hit, wherein you can take another card. There is the stand wherein you take no more cards. There is the double down wherein you double your wager, take just one more card and than stand. Then there is double the wager wherein you double your wager and have each card be your first card in a new hand. This can only happen when both your cards have the same value, otherwise you do not have this option. The turn of a player is only over after deciding to stand, double down to take a single card or busting. A player can keep on hitting until he or she is satisfied with the value of his cards. After all the players have finished making their decisions, the dealer then reveals his hidden card and plays his hand. It is standard for a dealer to hit until he or she has at least 17. This is regardless of what the players have. Of course if the dealer's hand busts, all remaining players will win. Players only receive their original bets back if the players push with the dealer.
Blackjack is indeed popular but it is not for all casino players. It is not merely a game of chance. You have to have a certain level of skill, you have to know when to hit and when to stand. But if you have the guts to get lucky at 21 then hit your nearest casino and hopefully you'll win it big!
